Reinvention reflection

Who are you when the old roles begin to change?

Making room for identity, purpose, and possibility in a new season of life.

For years, your days may have been shaped by clear roles: professional, partner, parent, caregiver, leader, or the person others could always depend on. These roles can offer belonging and purpose, but they can also become closely tied to how you understand yourself.

When a role changes, even through a positive transition, the space it leaves behind can feel unfamiliar. You may find yourself asking what matters now and who you are becoming.

Reinvention is not about discarding who you were. It is about allowing more of who you are to have a place.

Let the in-between be useful

We often rush to fill an identity gap with another title or responsibility. Yet the in-between can be a valuable place to notice what has been quiet for too long: interests, strengths, relationships, or ambitions that had little room before.

Questions for rediscovery

  • Which parts of my old roles do I want to carry forward?
  • What have I outgrown or no longer wish to carry?
  • When do I feel most like myself?
  • What have I been curious about but unable to prioritise?
  • What would I like this next chapter to feel like, not only look like?

Create space before creating a plan

Set aside a small, regular space that is not organised around anybody else’s needs. Use it to walk, write, learn, reconnect, or simply notice what gives you energy. Treat this time as exploration rather than another task to perform well.

A new sense of purpose is rarely invented in one dramatic moment. It is often assembled from the parts of yourself you choose to welcome back.
